Andrea Zappavigna, Labour and Employment Lawyer
After more than a decade of practising labour and employment law in downtown Vancouver, I am pleased to open the North Vancouver office of Forte Law, and share my time between the North Shore and Surrey offices. My depth of experience as both management and union/employee-side counsel offers my clients valuable perspective and insight.
I have a successful background in litigation. I frequently represent clients at labour arbitrations, the B.C. Labour Relations Board, and the B.C. Human Rights Tribunal. I have acted as counsel in Supreme Court and Provincial Court employment law trials, and have appeared at all levels of court in British Columbia. I have represented public and private sector employers and unions, as well as individual workers.
Although issues sometimes require litigation, they are ideally addressed before this stage. A large part of my practice is providing strategic advice for navigating the various stages of the employment relationship. This includes drafting employment contracts and policies, advising on employment standards, human rights, collective agreement and termination issues, as well as providing training to workplaces and/or their human resources professionals. I also accept appointments to conduct workplace investigations, as a neutral third party.
I enjoy being an active part of BC’s labour and employment law bar. I regularly present on workplace law topics to lawyers and human resources professionals through organizations such as the Canadian Bar Association (CBA), Lancaster House, and Certified Human Resource Professional (CHRP) roundtables. I am also proud be a mentor through the CBA, Women Lawyers Forum.
I feel fortunate to live and work in North Vancouver, just minutes from my family’s valued and diverse activities and communities.
