about Carmelle

I am passionate about resolving conflict and creating positive workplaces, prioritizing relationship wherever possible.

I always wanted to practice an area of law that impacted the average person. I used to ask myself, if someone sat next to me on a plane and asked what I did for a living, could I explain the area of law I practice and have them relate? This quest led me to workplace law. After all, there are few areas of life that impact people more than their employment.

I like to say I’m as widely Canadian as you can get. My parents are both from Atlantic Canada, and I lived in Newfoundland for several years when I was young. For most of my childhood, I grew up in small-town Ontario before moving West as an adult.

After graduating from law school, I started work in general private practice, followed by government and in-house roles, before returning to private practice and specializing in workplace law. My practice includes all areas of workplace law, including employment, labour, workers’ compensation, human rights, and privacy. I also conduct mediations and workplace investigations.

I am a strong advocate of resolving conflict outside of litigation, either through preventative methods such as training and policies, or conducting mediations or investigations, resorting only to litigation where truly necessary.

When I’m not working, I’m spending time with my husband and four kids going to their sports and activities, visiting extended family, or exploring beaches and local cafés.
