about Amy
I take a curious approach to my work. I take the time to really understand the situation and the people involved so I can determine what specific solution will work best
I am an employment lawyer and workplace investigator with more than 20 years of experience working in-house with HR and leadership teams from start-ups to global brands. Supporting employers and employees to create respectful, compliant workplaces and reach resolutions when there are challenges in the employment relationship is truly my passion.
I advise employers and employees, including at the executive level. My many years of in-house experience bring a helpful perspective for contract and policy work, as well as valuable insight when representing employees. I also have a very busy workplace investigation practice and have conducted investigations in private and public sector organizations, including in unionized environments. My role as investigator is to take a practical, problem-solving approach while ensuring that all parties are treated fairly and have an opportunity to be heard.
I was raised in Southern California where I attended law school and began my career as a litigation lawyer at a regional law firm in Los Angeles, before accepting a position in-house as Associate General Counsel for Skechers. In the mid-2000’s, my family moved to beautiful British Columbia, where I have worked with private and publicly-held companies employing teams of 20 to more than 5,000, including Best Buy and Aritzia. In those roles, I was always drawn to people and HR issues and that led me back to private practice in employment law.
When not at work, I enjoy travelling, running, biking, practicing yoga and sampling BC wines. My husband, two daughters and I have the ocean in our veins so we’re often found walking our Dachshund along the beach-side trails of Kits and UBC or visiting Tofino to enjoy the waves.
I maintain active professional licenses with the Law Society of BC, as well as the State Bar of California. I also have designations as a Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) and a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR).

Amy Frankel was an exceptional support when I needed legal advice. She was professional, compassionate, and quick to respond to any questions I had about the process or potential outcomes. I truly could not have had a better lawyer in my corner!

We worked with Amy on a business loan agreement document and were quite pleased with, not only the outcome, but how she treated us and explained things in terms we could understand. She didn’t waste a lot of time (or money) on unnecessary items. We got what we needed!
