about Christie

I love to help people figure out what they need and how to get it, and then watch them achieve their goals. I have a talent for connecting with and understanding others.

I am an employment and workplace human rights lawyer. I am an extroverted people person who loves to help people figure out what they need and how to get it. I have a talent for connecting with people and understanding their point of view.

My approach is to educate and empower my clients about the law, the legal process, possible outcomes and timelines so that they can achieve the result that is best for them. I advise on all aspects of employment law and workplace human rights (discrimination at work). Advising both employers and employees gives me valuable perspective – I often advise on opposite sides of the same issue in the same day/week. No matter what the issue, I bring my understanding and compassion to the table.

I attended University of Victoria for my undergraduate studies and have a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in Geography.  I also studied abroad at Exeter University in England, which was one of my most memorable life experiences. After law school at Dalhousie University in Halifax, I articled with a large law firm in Vancouver, then continued my practice for several years in Vancouver.  In 2017, I connected with Sara Forte and was delighted to bring my practice closer to home in South Surrey.  I can now ride my bike to work.  I immediately knew workplace law was the right fit for me and have happily practiced exclusively in this area since 2017.

Outside of work I spend time with my husband, young children and our (very) large extended family. We love the outdoors, travelling, playing board games and good food and drink. I grew up in South Surrey/White Rock, worked and volunteered with local businesses and organizations and played high-level competitive sports. While I still bike and play recreational ice-hockey, most of my spare time is now spent encouraging my children in their activities. When I have the chance, I enjoy hands-on projects and crafting with my children. We recently completed building a teardrop inspired camping trailer.

client reviews

I can’t recommend Christie and Forte Workplace Law highly enough. We needed employment contracts and workplace policies and Christie did an amazing job. From the beginning to the end, she was always available to answer our questions and provide us with advice when needed. Her thoroughness and positive attitude makes her a pleasure to work with.

Fantastic experience dealing with Christie and her team. We are a new startup dental practice and she was very accommodating with her time and expertise to draft multiple versions for our contracts for a location in BC and another province as well. Highly recommended as the go-to firm for dental employment contracts!
– Dr. Ahmed Ismail, Periodontist

I met with Christie Gilmour after a co-worker recommended Forte Law, and she was well worth every penny. She met with me on an urgent basis during an extremely tumultuous time. She was professional but sensitive to my needs. Which were, that despite not wanting to end my employment due to financial reasons, my work environment was a detriment to my mental health. I was starting to have panic attacks whenever I received any work related communications.

Christie Gilmour helped me through a very difficult time. I found myself needing legal advice regarding my employment, and there was a lot of uncertainty. Christie was incredibly knowledgeable. She gave me peace of mind and answered all my questions over the duration of my case. I could not be happier in my experience with Christie and Forte Law. Thank you. I would strongly recommend Christie Gilmour and Forte Law to anyone who needs employment legal advice.

Christie reviewed all my previous communications with my employer and offered me two affordable options of moving forward. She drafted a letter for me to forward to my employer that ended up getting me a substantial severance package and additional support during job transition. I am in a great financial and emotional situation after the termination of my employment with a toxic employer and I owe a huge thank you to Christie for making it happen.
